Plan Your Studies The following is a tutorial to help guide organizational leadership graduate students through the process of planning curriculum studies.
Provided is an example to help new students: • This tutorial will help new students and remind current students of how to plan their studies within the Organizational Leadership curriculum. • The provided example is of a graduate student with a concentration in Counseling-Related Services.
Incoming graduate student example Step 1: Please click on the link to your concentration: http://www.rider.edu/172_14922.htm Counseling-Related Services in this example
Step 2: Think through how many courses you want to take each semester.
The following two documents will be needed throughout your decision-making process: Planning Calendar: The Study Plan Sheet: Example Example
Step 4: Download the Study Plan of the concentration you have chosen. For this example, the student is concentrating in Counseling-Related Services. Example
Step 5: New students are advised to take Core courses prior to taking Concentration courses. • Using the Planning Calendar, this student would locate on the left-hand side of the page the available Core courses for the Fall 2010 semester. • The student sees that LEAD 500: Introduction to Organizational Leadership is available to take on Mondays. Also: LEAD 510: Organizational Communication is available to take on Wednesdays.
Step 5: (Continued) Example
Step 6: Using the Study Plan sheet, the student then types onto the document on the left-hand side column labeled Semester “Fall 2010” in LEAD 500 & LEAD 510. Fall 2010 Fall 2010 Example
Step 7: To continue to plan ahead for the Spring semester, the student will use the Planning Calendar to locate future classes. For Spring 2011, the student decides to take LEAD 530: Individual and Group Processes in Organizations which will be offered on Thursdays as well as lead 550: Organizational Research which will be offered on Tuesdays.
Step 7: (Continued) Example Example
Step 8: Using the Study Plan sheet, the student can insert “Spring 2011” into the columns under Semester. For each subsequent class, the student should follow this process. Fall 2010 Fall2010 Spring2011 Spring 2011 Example
Step 9: After completing the study plan, e-mail as an attachment to the Organizational Leadership e-mail address at: ewatson@rider.edu E-mail to: ewatson@rider.edu
Important items students need to consider: • Students should note that not all courses are offered all semesters. • Not all courses are available as on-line courses. • Students should expect to take at least a minimum of 2 ½ years to complete the OL program. • LEAD 598: Project Seminar is a time-consuming course. It is inadvisable to take two courses when you take LEAD 598.
Important items students need to consider (Continued): • While every effort has been made to provide complete information on course schedules, sometimes circumstances change and updates and changes must be made to the schedules. • Always be sure to check back for current planning calendars.
It is important for all students to plan ahead so that course requirements are completed. We look forward to receiving your Study Plans! Please e-mail your attached documents to: ewatson@rider.edu Many thanks! Prof. Elizabeth WatsonProgram Director, MA Organizational Leadership
