Survey of Genesis: Patriarchal History • Isaac (25:12-28:9) • Approximate dates of Isaac - ~2066-1886 B.C. • Ishmael's and Isaacs Generations (25:12-20) • Ishmael had twelve sons known as the twelve princes • Ishmael died at age 137 • His children settled to the east of Egypt toward Assyria (Saudi Arabia) • Isaac was 123 when Ishmael died • Isaac the son of Abraham • He was 40 when he married Rebekah • Rebekah was the daughter of Bethuel, her brother was Laban

Survey of Genesis: Patriarchal History • Isaac (25:12-28:9) • Isaac and Abimelech (26:1-22) • God's promise repeated to Isaac (1-6) • Famine in the land so went to Gerar to Abimelech king of the Philistines • God tells Isaac not to go to Egypt but to stay in Gerar • God gives Isaac the promise he gave Abraham • God will be with him and bless him • God will give this land to Isaac's descendants • God will establish the oath He made with Abraham • His descendants will be as many as the stars • By his descendants all nations will be blessed • Because Abraham obeyed God and kept His commandments, statutes, and laws (26:5)

Isaac to Beersheba (26:23-33) • 1. God reconfirms His covenant with Isaac. • 2. Abimelech seeks out Isaac to make a covenant with him. • a. Abimelech has sent Isaac away in peace. • b. Abimelech wanted Isaac to treat him as well. • c. Had a feast, next moring said oaths and Abimelech left. • 3. Dug a well at Beersheeba "well of oath."

Survey of Genesis: Patriarchal History • Isaac (25:12-28:9) • Esau Marries (26:34-35) • Esau takes two wives • They made life miserable for Isaac and Rebekah • Jacob Steals Esau's Blessing (27:1-46) • Isaac, who is almost blind, tells Esau to hunt and fix him some food from it and the Isaac will give him his blessing (as first born) (1-4) • Isaac falls ill at age 137 and thought he was going to die so calls Esau to bless him, however Isaac lived to 180 • Jacob and Esau were 77 years old • Blessing = combination of asking God to bless them and a prophecy of their future
