  6. Master’s Degree Vs. Type 75 OnlyCandidate Requirements • Both programs require taking and passing the state leadership exam. • The master’s degree requires two more courses than the Type 75 only (The capstone and an elective) • The Type 75 certification requires a masters degree in another field prior to entering the program • Both require a standards-based growth and interview portfolio upon completion of the program. • Both require the completion of the NCC leadership standards matrix representing evidence of leadership knowledge and artifacts • Type 75 completers present and submit their portfolio in their final term to a designated faculty reader • Master’s Degree completers complete the portfolio and attend a portfolio event during the capstone course. • All candidates must submit an audit to the college to be certified by the state.

  7. Program Requirements • The Leadership Standards Matrix • Field Experiences and Internship • Professional Portfolio • 10-12 Courses (Including an Internship) • The utilization of blackboard and Livetext.

  8. Field Experiences: Theory to Practice8-10 hours per course I. Description of the Activity (Location, date, other persons involved, activity, environment, etc….) How many hours of field work did you complete? Explain if there is more than one experience combined for this course. II. Learning Outcomes: What leadership standards and indicators are illustrated in your field experience? Describe the artifact(s) or evidence that represents what you have learned. III. How did you learn and grow as a school leader through this experience? What would have improved the experience? Would you recommend this type of field experience to others? Why or why not? IV. Develop an artifact that illustrates evidence of your growth as a leader through this field work. Be specific about your role.

  9. The Leadership Standards Matrix Primary purpose: A tool to develop and record knowledge and evidence of the leadership standards

  10. The Leadership Standards Matrix Process • Keep an inventory of artifacts you have developed for your portfolio. Each field experience is your best source for authentic artifacts. • Identify the leadership standards/indicators for each course you complete. (See syllabus or matrix for indicators aligned to each course.) • Develop 5 artifacts per course as a representative indicator. Provide a cover sheet that describes each artifact, the indicator it represents, and how you have grown as a leader. *It is up to you to determine how an artifact illustrates a specific indicator through the cover sheet • Record on your matrix the indicators met by each artifact. • Provide a knowledge statement and cite your reference for the indicators that do not have an artifact. • In some cases you may have more than one indicator represented by an artifact. • Complete the indicators as they occur in your classroom and field work. An indicator not completed during a course, may be accomplished later in the program in another course. • Obtain signatures on your matrix from the course instructor for completed indicators.

  11. The NCC professional growth portfolio is: • A systematic collection of artifacts and reflections. • A map of professional growth and development. • A visual representation of experiences and competencies. • Evidence of growth through course projects, field work, and authentic work experiences in your school or classroom.
