  1. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

  2. Age • I specified the age of 13-18 for my magazine, I have represented this by the colour scheme, photography used and also the cover lines. • The colour scheme is pink, purple and black which are fun bold colours which are connotations of the behaviour of teenagers as it’s about having fun but also they like being the center of attention. • The images used are fun and posed I chose to do this as teenagers like to have fun and this relates to their age but they also like taking posed photos of themselves which I think will encourage a lot of people to pick the magazine up. As well as this the background is in a park which is where a lot of teenagers go with their friends. • I also made the coverlines and title short, easy to read and snappy as teenagers don’t like to read a lot and found this would be the most encouraging in terms of them picking the magazine up and buying it.

  3. Gender • The gender for my magazine is females I think my magazine reflects this in many ways. • One way in which it reflects the gender is through the colour scheme of pink and purple. These are stereotypically female colours. • I have also used photography to reflect gender in the magazine as I made the images as girly and fun as I could by using pink bubblegum and a lollipop I chose these as they are typically girly items especially with the bubblegum being pink. • In conjunction to this there are also more female artists mentioned and advice aimed at females, I have also included popular male singers and boybands which could also aim at males although it will aim predominantly at females.

  4. Class • As the age range for my audience will be 13-18 this means that they will have very low paid jobs or no job at all meaning they will fall between working/middle class (NRS social grades C1, C2 and D). • I have represented this by the price and ‘freebies’ that come along with the magazine. • I have priced the magazine at £2.50 as I think this is a reasonable price that any class could afford and if they have a job or not and get pocket money they could afford the magazine. • I have also included ‘freebies’ with the magazine such as free posters and an extra item of beauty such as a nail polish, make-up etc. I thought this would be beneficial as the public will be more likely to buy the magazine as they will be getting an extra item for free.

  5. Social Groups • Although not many social groups are represented in my magazine one that could be interpreted is the Preppy social group as there are some aspects that are cheery and happy as well as preppy items.
