Do religious beliefs influence sexual activity among young people in Hong Kong? • Dr. Anita Chan, sociology professor: Some Christians are concerned with the issue of abortion. • Ms. Grace Lee, Family Planning Association of Hong Kong: Religious beliefs don’t play a very large role because religion is diffused throughout daily life. However, the Catholic church does not allow the FPA to discuss methods of contraception or prophylactics in their workshops. They must only discuss natural prevention such as the rhythm method, and abstinence until marriage. • Ms. Suvan Law, Mother’s Choice: Yes, religious beliefs are a factor because they influence one’s values and concept of life. Girls with such beliefs do not choose abortion as a parenting option.
