Current MS Practice Awards Night Graduation May 9th DVMS - 6:30 pm May 10th DMS – 6:30pm May 18 DMS – 7:00 pm May 19 DVMS – 7:00 pm End school year on the day of graduation, 6 to 7 days earlier than the district
Question as per our 21st C Goal? • Does the current practice of allowing 8th graders to end school 6 to 10 days earlier than all K-11th grade students match the district’s mission and vision and our 21st Century learning criteria? • Does the current practice of the 8th grade graduation ceremony math the district’s mission and vision and our 21st Century learning criteria?
Thoughts/ Suggestions to the following recommendation • Combine 8th grade graduation with an awards/recognition ceremony on/near the last full day of school. • Individually indicate your level of support by placing a number on the sticking note. If you chose 1 or 2, indicate why you cannot support the recommendation. • 5 4 3 2 1 • Support Can Live with Cannot Support

Issues… • Need time for teachers to engage weekly in a Professional Learning Community! • There is currently no “time” built into the schedule for teachers to meet weekly • PLCs are a key strategy in the deployment of the strategic plan • To create this time, a schedule change is needed. • Change isn’t easily implemented and sometimes not welcomed!
Criteria The committee identified criteria used to process all of the schedule change options including: • Change should be system-wide providing release time for ALL teachers K-12 • Change should be as “instructional time” neutral as possible • Change should be as “work day” neutral as possible; not adding to the teacher work day • Change should have the least negative impact on: • Family inconveniences • Transportation difficulties • Staffing impacts
