  1. Welcome To Grade 6 Science! Semester One 2011-2012 An Introduction PPT from Mr Fedley http://plysik.wikispaces.com/

  2. Today’s Lesson • Topics for this year • How will I be marked? • Basic class rules and expectations • Quick Discussion • Small Activity (Booklets) • Join The Wiki

  3. Grade 6 Science – Topics • So what will we learn in Science this year? • Introduction to Science • Organisms (Biology) • Living Interactions (Biology) • Matter (Chemistry) • Energy, Forces & Space (Physics) http://www.lovespeaks.net/dating-funnies-stories/

  4. How Do We Get Marked?? • In Science, we mark using Criteria’s. That’s basically a number between 0-6. • These are not like percentages. A mark of 4 is a very good mark. • Each criteria needs to be marked at least twice per semester • Your teacher cannot average your marks, but looks at your best and last mark. http://www.ibo.org/index.cfm http://www.cic-caracas.org/ibmyp/

  5. Our Criteria • Criteria A – One World • Criteria B – Communication in Science • Criteria C – Knowledge & understanding of Science • Criteria D – Scientific Inquiry • Criteria E – Processing data • Criteria F – Attitudes in Science • Hint – your first mark may not be very good, but it will improve when you are given feedback on how to improve your work for next time.

  6. SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT!! GOOD BEHAVIOUR = LEARNING MOSTLY THROUGH EXPERIMENTS

  7. Basic Class Rules • No talking while someone is talking to the class (this includes the teacher or other students) • We only move around the class with a valid reason (not for the sake of it) or during an experiment • Eating or Drinking in class is a big no-no (*) • When someone is talking, we listen to them • During an experiment, we follow the teachers instructions if they tell us to sit down. • We have fun!

  8. Booklets • We will now be making small booklets. Once the booklets are made, we need to complete the work below on the following pages: • Page 1: Grade 6 Science – Semester One (Heading) • Page 2 & 3: Tell me some things about yourself. Do you have any brothers/sisters, favourite movie, favourite sport, what you find annoying etc. • Page 4 & 5: Tell me what you enjoyed and did not enjoy about PYP Science. • Page 6 & 7: What would you like to do/learn about in Grade 6 Science • Page 8: What are you going to try harder to do in Science this year?

  9. Time Dependent • Go to the following wiki: • http://yisgrade6.wikispaces.com • Then join wikispaces and then join the wiki using your YIS email address. • There is not much on the wiki at the moment, but it will include most handouts and PPT’s along with it being an area for general information • There is a discussion area. Please ask questions here and also answer questions for people who need help!!!
