Nutrition EducationInfluence healthy eating behaviors • Health education curriculum standards • Consistent nutrition messages • Model healthy eating and living • Engages food service program • Integrated units of study within content areas
Physical ActivityOpportunity to develop knowledge, skill for specific physical activity, maintain physical fitness, regularly participate, understand benefits • Encourage students to get 60 minutes of physical activity in a day • Daily recess period – 20 minutes • Physical Education Class • Integration into the academic curriculum • Co-curricular athletics • Engage in bodily-kinesthetic activities
Physical Education • Instruction based on Physical Best Program • Basic Training Principles • Aerobic Fitness • Muscular Strength and Endurance • Flexibility • Assessing Fitness Knowledge • Self-responsibility and Attitudes • Kindergarten – weekly for 20 minutes • Grades 1- 6 – weekly for 45 minutes • Grades 7 & 8 – three rotations of 15 days * Physical Education schedule commensurate with schools in the state.

All Foods Available on School CampusProvide nutritious, fresh food and improves upon the USDA and state dietary guidelines. • Nutritional standards for foods and beverages • Educational experiences support curriculum implementation • Student observances celebrated through a variety of activities (other than the use of food)
Provide nutritious, fresh food • Pear Bear Program – • Increasing elementary aged students’ selection of fruit and vegetables and introduces the students to speed walking • Reduced priced pears for school and parents • Partnership with USDA and Northwest Pear Bureau • School participation begins this spring
School-Based Activities Designed to Promote Wellnesscreate an environment that provides consistent wellness messages and conducive to eating healthy eating and beingphysically active • Clean, safe, enjoyable meal environment • Provide adequate time to enjoy meals • Prohibit food as a reward • Serve as role models • Recognize the importance of daily recess • Explore and promote activities beyond the school day
