What is the experience of Cameron Russell? (period 7) • She feels image is superficial, but also powerful • She feels the images created for her job are not really her they are “constructions” of her • She is insecure (as are most of her colleagues) • She was treated differently because of how she looks (ex. escaping police, she got a dress for free when she had forgotten her wallet) • She changed in to modest clothes – she doesn’t want to be seen as “different” just because of her looks • Confident, courageous • She was “scouted” and she won a “genetic lottery” (slim, tall, white, female) • She cares what other people think • She had to fake tan for her job • For her job, she has to think about how she looks each day • Outside of her job she focuses more on the internal • She had to grow up quickly – did not have a boyfriend, wore a bikini later
