  4. Where did it come from? Civil Rights Movement/Anti Vietnam War Movement introduced protest People began questioning traditional boundaries Increase in distrust of authority

  5. They valued freedom of expression They promoted peace, love, freedom

  6. Generation Gap

  7. Lack of understanding and communication between the older and younger generations

  8. Many hippies lived together in Communes In addition to sex, drugs, and rock and roll, many hippies also took an interest in spirituality
