Daily Objectives • What was the importance of the French and Indian war? • What issues led to the American Revolution? • Debate whether the Colonists were “spoiled brats,” or “justified patriots.” • Find out why the shots fired at Lexington and Concord really were the “shots heard round the world.” • Discover the political ideas that led to the Declaration of Independence.
French and Indian war • -Was a long time in the making (Colonists moving into Native American lands) • -Really the first “world war” • British and Americans vs. French and Native Americans • Was a dispute over land rights-turns into a 10 year war • (look at p. 42-compare the 2 maps)
Issues leading to the Revolution • Changing British Policy • Proclamation of 1763 – limited Colonist settlement • British in debt!!!! Needed to tax Colonists • Think back to Mercantilism and Salutary Neglect • Sugar Act of 1764 – first major tax • Quartering Act of 1765 • Stamp Act Crisis 1765
