  3. Tuscarora by the Numbers • First year school opened up with 1100 students • 44% Minority/ 56% White/Middle Eastern • Around 550 referrals • 2011-2012 school year we will have 1600 students

  4. Data Collection • Data should drive all decision making! • How do you decide what data to collect? • Referrals • Tardies to class/school • What to do with the data? • Committee • Faculty • Provide Positive Reinforcers

  5. Staff Involvement • Let your staff help in deciding what the behavior focus should be. • In my experience, this has helped in the reinforcement of the decisions that are made by the committee. • Participate in the development of the discipline flow chart.

  6. The Role of Advisory • Meets every Tuesday for 30 minutes • Teach and re-teach school expectations • Establish relationships with students • Gain student participation in PBIS

  7. Student Participation • Allow students to recognize teachers for exhibiting school characteristics! • Recognize a PBIS staff member of the month based on student recommendation forms. • Students should also be represented on the PBIS committee.

Overcoming Hurdles • Established faculty vs. new faculty • Timing is the key with established faculty • Don’t rush to gain support of established faculty • Data vs. no data • Using data to gain support of established faculty • Tracking kids and establishing 20/20 rule • Little support vs. full support from administration
