California State University:Minimum Requirements & Costs • High school diploma or equivalent • A-G courses with a grade of C or better • Minimum 2.0 GPA • SAT or ACT exam (writing section not required; best scores from any sitting accepted) • Minimum eligibility index score (SAT/ACT and GPA calculation) of 2900 using the SAT results and 694 using the ACT results • Statewide Tuition: $5,472 for full-time enrollment (does not include other university fees, supplies, or housing)

  22. Independent Colleges/Universities: Description Educational institutions that are not operated by the government. Many have unique characteristics. For instance, some are religion affiliated, Ivey League, or liberal arts only schools.

Independent Colleges/Universities: Overview • Independent college students are individuals—not numbers • Every application is personally reviewed • Classes are smaller and taught by professors not teaching assistants • Students receive personal attention to help them success in college and life

Independent Colleges/Universities:Overview • There are over 75 nonprofit, independent colleges and universities in the state. • Requirements and tuition vary • Two and four year institutions • Cannot legally discriminate, but generally is not restricted in setting admissions policies • May or may not require exam scores • May or may not require personal statements • May or may not value talent over a high GPA

  25. Independent Colleges/Universities:Overview • Many institutions make broad efforts to recruit students from underprivileged backgrounds • Tuition fees tend to be higher than at public universities though many institutions offer financial aid (tuition range is $9,500 to $39,000)
