CKOV-1 PROGRESS L. Cremaldi, D. Summers, R. Godang, M. Reep, B. Rankins U. Mississippi MICE MEETING- Frascati JUNE 25, 2005
CONCEPT • Simple Design, PID Redundancy, Immune to Decay in Flight. • Aperture based on Tom Roberts beam spread plots at • CKOV1. Sizing the radiator aperture at R =230mm. • The window will be fused silica 1/8-1/4 inch or UV • transmitting glass (Suprasil, etc. ). • Light collection by 4 flat triangular mirrors • + 4 x 8” PMTs (+ cones??) - Baseline. • Light collection studies underway to determine mirror • type (focusing/flat), position etc. - RayTracing. • Radiator for p = 240-280 MeV/c challenging! • C6F14(n=1.25), LN2(n=1.205), Aerogel(n=1.12) under study. • G4MICE cross checks by Steve Kahn important.

HIGH INDEX AEROGEL INQUIREY - Matsushita Hello I'm interested in some high index (n=1.08 and n=1.12) aerogel tiles. Might you be able to supply such a product? Best Regards, Don Summers, Ph.D. Dear Prof. Don Summers: Thank you for your inquiry for our silica aerogels. My name is Hiroko Hasegawa, in Matsushita Electric Works, Ltd. We don't have any products of high index ( n=1.08 and 1.12 ) aerogel tiles. On the other hand, we could develop them if you would require more than 10 liters and the price could be matched. However, they should not be transparent (clouded or translucent). We hope to hear from you. Sincerely yours, Hiroko Hasegawa +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Hiroko Hasegawa Coating Business Promotion Group New Business Promotion Department Matsushita Electric Works, Ltd 1048 Kadoma,Osaka,571-8686 Japan <TEL> +81-6-6906-2018 (MIC:8711-2104) <FAX> +81-6-6904-4457 <Address> hhasegawa@mewe1.mewnet.or.jp +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

SUMMARY • Further Scrutiny of 4- Mirror Baseline Design. • Efficiency Scans - Promising - Further studies. • High Density Aerogel a good choice 240-280 MeV/c. • -but poor Transparency !! • LN2 New Baseline for (240-280) MeV/c! • Some advantage to adding Muon Position Hodoscope • in PID Reco Algorithm. • RayTracing Optimization of Mirror and PMT Components • In Progress. • Test Beam in Fall 05. • Performance Tests in G4-MICE. • Full Design by Jan 06. Mechanical Drawing etc.
