Generic construction qualification (1 – 4) • Qualification registered for levels 1, 2 & 4 • Level 3 being developed • All qualification related to Road Works will not be re-registered at the end of their validity period – subject to review • Level 1 review workshop – 2 Nov 05 • Output will be circulated to stakeholders before forwarding to SAQA • Level 2, 3 & 4 National Certificate in Construction – Road Works will be reviewed in 2006
Construction Materials Testing qualification (1-4) • No significant progress • Start of year CETA requested to review the qualification • Delayed through lack of funds • Meeting 15 November 2005 • Funds available • Industry workshop end of Jan ’06 • Purpose of workshop • Test the suitability of the generic qualification • Rank the complexity of test in the various streams and modify the range statements of the unit standards • Debate whether the mining industry can attach a stream to the generic qualification (dealing with minerals) • Debate the level 5/6 certificate of the Engineering SGB
Generic Certificate in Engineering (5/6) • Newly established SGG of the Engineering SGB is developing a generic engineering certificate • Stakeholder meeting planned for 25 November ’05 at ECSA • Will allow ECSA accredited training providers to design programmes for early specialisation in field such as Pavement design, Materials technology, specialised and advanced testing procedures for Civil works
Generic B Eng, B Tech & N-Dip – stage 2 process • Engineering SGB responsibility • Stage 1 qualifications developed and registered • Stage 2 qualifications developed and being prepared for submission to SAQA • Stage 2 development deals with the nominal 3-year period in preparation for Professional Registration
Learning Material and Assessment Tools • 2 CETA projects running in parallel • Developing generic guidelines for training materials and assessment tools related to the various unit standards • Paid through levy contributions • Material available to CETA accredited training providers at no cost
Construction Materials Manufacturing • Part of the Building Construction SGB and is still problematic • Issue will be debated at next SGB meeting of 29 Nov ’05 • Unit standards related Asphalt/Bitumen manufacturing are currently added as electives in the generic construction qualification at NQF level 4
Construction Management & Project Management • Various qualifications in Construction Management from levels 5 to 8 are registered • Qualification in Construction project management at level 7 is still being finalised
