  2. Self-Concept • General idea of who you are. • Formed by putting together everything you know, think an believe about yourself. • Based on your thoughts, relationships, experiences. • How you see yourself, what you think about yourself. • Can change

  3. Positive self-concept: • Gives you confidence to try new things and see failures as opportunities to learn. • Makes you secure to make friends, make own decisions and manage problems. • Builds solid foundation for success in life!

  4. Motivation • Motivation: reason for doing something in a particular way External motivation vs internal motivation.

Internal: Self-motivation If you are self-motivated, you are motivated to achieve something because of your own interest without being influenced to do so by other people. • Self-motivation: your ability to commit to meeting a goal because it is something you want to do. • Most powerful motivator.

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SELF-MOTIVATION AND SELF-CONCEPT • Self-motivation helps you to feel good about yourself, it helps you to build a positive self-concept. • If you feel good about yourself, you will want to be the best “you” possible. • Wanting to be the best “you” possible is the root of self-motivation. • If you have a healthy self-concept, you will be self-motivated to aim for success in whatever you do.

POSITIVE SELF-TALK IS ABOUT: • Speaking to yourself respectfully • Focusing on the positive aspects of yourself and praising yourself for your achievements • Believing in yourself • Concentration on your unique strengths and abilities • Treating yourself with kindness and encouragement • Being gentle with yourself and forgiving yourself when you make mistakes • Seeing any mistakes as opportunities to learn
