TYPE OF GOALS • REMEMBER A GOAL IS NOT A WISH OR DESIRE BUT SOMETHING THAT YOU HAVE THE ABILITY AND THE DRIVE TO ACHIEVE. • GOALS ARE USEFUL BECAUSE: • THEY GIVE YOU DIRECTION • THEY HELP YOU TO TAKE CHARGE OF THE FUTURE • THEY ARE PERSONAL, UNIQUE AND SPECIAL • SKILLS THAT CAN HELP YOU ACHIEVE GOALS: • PROBLEM-SOLVING, DECISION MAKING, SELF MANAGEMENT • TIME MANAGEMENT, REFLECTION, EVALUATION
THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF GOALS THERE ARE THREE DIFFERENT TYPES OF GOALS: SHORT TERM GOALS – THEY ARE ACHIEVED IN LESS THAN A YEAR, EG. WEEKS OR MONTHS MEDIUM TERM GOALS – THEY ARE ACHIEVED BETWEEN ONE AND THREE YEARS LONG TERM GOALS – LIFE GOALS THAT YOU AIM TO ACHIEVE IN MORE THAN THREE YEARS REMEMBER: SHORT TERM AND MEDIUM TERM GOALS ARE USUALLY MADE TO ACHIEVE A LONG TERM GOAL IN FUTURE
STEPS IN PLANNING AND GOAL SETTING • THE FIRST STEP IN PLANNING YOUR GOALS IS WRITING THEM DOWN ON PAPER. • MAKE SURE YOUR GOAL IS SMART- SPESIFIC, MEASURABLE, ACHIEVABLE, REALISTIC, TIMELY OR TIME MANAGEMENT. • SET UP A ACTION PLAN TO SET UP YOUR GOAL • DO IT!
