  2. Vocabulary • Athens- ancient Greece city- state; present day capitol of ancient Greece • Agora- a market or meeting place in ancient Greece • Vendor- a person who consumes of selling goods • Slavery- someone who is owned by someone else and forced to do work

  3. Objectives • Public life in Athens Greece for me was in the morning they would have to go to work in the agora. They would have to face mild climates on their way to the agora. When you work in the agora you can sell goods and buy goods. Many men would talk of politics and philosophy. Many women in Athens, Greece would be home. Woman would have to take care of the children, sow clothing, and make food for the family. • Daily life in Athens Greece at home was depending on either private or average life. People who had a private life would have houses made of mud bricks, some had rooms. Whether you have a private or average life you would have for breakfast you would have bread. For lunch you would probably have cheese, olives, and bread. Your dinner would consist of fruit, fish, vegetables, cheese, fruit, and bread. Sometimes they would even have cakes with honey. Most people in Athens had no but little meat.

  4. Objectives Continued • Slaves in Athens were either captured by armies or by pirates. Most slaves in Athens were foreigners. Slaves had many different jobs to do. Jobs slaves had to do were tend farms, dig silver, create pottery, construct buildings, tend children, wove clothing and some cook. Some slaves could buy their freedom but some could not.

  5. Target Reading Skills In the target reading skills it talked about word origin. One word they talked about was splendid. We think it means terrific. Basically we thing it means great awesome, amazing, etc.

  6. Summary This chapter was about daily life in Athens, Greece. Throughout this section it talked about what men and woman lives during the day. It talked about the jobs woman had at their home. It also talked about Slaves in Ancient Greece were talked about too. They talked about the jobs slaves had and what they did during the day. This section was interesting and fun to learn about.

  7. Interesting Facts • Slaves were captured by pirates and armies. • Kids going to school would use a wooden tablet covered in wax. • Woman could not participate in any type of politics.
