People of the Chapter • Esau • Oldest son of Rebecca and Isaac. Sold away his birthright. • Jacob • Son of Isaac who received the blessing and became the next patriarch. God changed Jacob’s name to Israel.
St. Paul • Known as Saul (before his conversion) • Saul was guilty of persecuting Christians. • GREAT CONVERSION (shows that believing in the Lord can change a person) • Great light • Temporarily blind • Got baptized and changed his name to PAUL • Taught people to know and love Jesus

Keeping the Promises • God’s Covenant to Noah • That the earth would never be destroyed again. • God made this promise in a rainbow • God’s covenant to Jacob • that Jacob would have many descendants, protection and land. • How was this told to Jacob? • In a dream. He slept on a rock at Bethel.

Why is Receiving Isaac’s birthright so important? • Right to be the patriarch of the family • Right to the inheritance • Jacob had twelve sons who later became the Twelve Tribes of Israel. • This shows that God honored his original promise to Abraham to give him many descendants.
Ways that young people can keep everyday covenants • Being honest • Being loyal to friends • Not making promises that they can’t keep • Respecting parents • Taking truthful oaths only when necessary
