DIFFICULITIES • 1. Find out the key sentence and give the main idea of a long writing • 2. Brainstorm the ideas concerning the topic “gift” • 3. Use dialogue, linking words or some descriptions to write an anecdote about “gift”
Step 1, Lead in • Q: Do you like Christmas Day? • How do you celebrate your Christmas Day? • Have you ever received or sent some gifts on Christmas Day?
Step 2, Presentation • Read the writing “Christmas Day in the Morning” and analyze the structure of the text by answering some questions concerning the gift (what the gift is, to whom, when, why, and how); • Find out the key sentence and give the main idea in each part
Step 3, Activity • Ask students to read the text “ Almie Rose’s Christmas Present” and “From the Heart” , and analyze the structure ( who, what, when, why, how); • Ask students to present the structure map on the blackboard; • Try to retell the two texts.
Step 4, Discussion • Q: besides the Christmas day, when will you will receive a gift from others? Can you show it to others.
Step 5, Presentation • Read the first three works of your peers and fill the chart
Step 6, Activity • Q: have you sent some gifts to your friends, classmates, or parent? Share it with others.
HOMEWORK • Write a short piece of writing about a memorable gift you gave someone. • First part: open the writing with some background information. • Second part: describe the anecdote using dialogue or some other skills. • Third part: conclude the writing with some insight gained.
