5th Grade French Specials All 5th Grade students at Hanover Middle School receive 30 days of French as part of their specials rotation. This is an introductory course and is fun and easy for all ability levels. Students are required to copy vocabulary from the chalkboard and learn it with the help of classroom activities and worksheets. Simple tests are given after several days of studying each set of vocabulary words. All students get the opportunity to speak, hear, read and write all of the vocabulary words.

5th Grade French Specials Project Requirements Every grade will complete a project in Foreign Language Specials which will comprise a portion of their grade. The best projects will be selected for entry in the Spring Specials Showcase. Prizes are awarded in each specials subject area. The Fifth Grade project is a French classroom diagram. Students will design and draw a classroom, color it, and label 20 items in French This project is worth 20 points. Correct French spelling is required. We take notes on French classroom objects. This project helps students to become more familiar with their French classroom vocabulary.

Joyeux Anniversaire If a student informs Mrs. Crist that it is his/her birthday, the class will sing the French Birthday song to this student. Joyeux anniversaire, Joyeux anniversaire, (juwhy youz ah nee vair sare)-pronunciation Joyeux anniversaire a Jean-Claud, Joyeux anniversaire!
6th Grade Spanish Specials All 6th graders receive 30 days of Spanish instruction as part of their specials rotations. Instruction is designed to be fun and easy for all ability levels. Students are asked to copy vocabulary from the chalkboard. They will practice the words with a variety of activities and worksheets. Simple tests are given at the end of each topic. All students are given the opportunity to say, write, read and hear all of the vocabulary words.

6th Grade Spanish SpecialsProject Each grade will complete a small project during Foreign Language Specials. It will be included as part of their grades. 6th Graders complete a Spanish Calendar Page. Each student chooses his favorite month of the year. They find a calendar that will show them how the days are arranged in that month for this year. Students then draw a calendar, showing days of the week, numbers, and the month and year in Spanish. Students draw and color an illustration that will show what that month means to them. This project is worth 30 points, which is a significant part of their grades. The best projects will be saved for submission in the Spring Specials Showcase. Prizes are awarded to 3 students in each grade for every specials subject area.
Feliz Cumpleaños If a student lets Mrs. Crist know that it is his/her birthday, the class will sing in Spanish. Here is the song: Feliz cumpleaños a ti, en tu dia feliz, feliz Pronunciation (fay leese koom play ahn yose) cumpleaños a Julio, feliz cumpleaños a ti.
7th Grade French Specials All 7th Grade Students receive 30 days of French instruction per year as part of their Specials Rotations. Mrs. Crist chooses new topics that were not already studied in 5th grade French. Students are asked to copy vocabulary words and learn them through means of worksheets, games, conversations, and other interactive activities. Simple tests in a variety of formats are given at the end of each vocabulary unit.

7th Grade French SpecialsProject Students in each grade must complete a small project during Foreign Language Specials. This project is included as part of their grades. 7th graders design a menu in French. We will be doing a small unit on French foods. Students will use vocabulary words from the unit as well as other food words that they look up to create an illustrated menu including 30 items colored and labeled in French. The menu will be worth 30 points, which is a significant part of their grades. The best menus will be selected for submission to the Spring Specials Showcase. Projects from all the specials areas will be on display in the auditoria and lobby. Prizes will be awarded to 3 students from each grade in every special area.
8th Grade Spanish Specials For students who attended H.M.S. in 6th grade, this will be their second time to study Spanish. We will do new topics that we did not cover in 6th grade. All 8th grade students will get 30 days of Spanish per year as part of their Specials Rotations. Students will copy Spanish vocabulary and will learn it through a variety of games, worksheets, and other interactive activities. Simple tests given in a variety of formats will take place at the end of each unit of vocabulary. This year, students will decide if they want to study a foreign language in high school. Hanover High School offers French or Spanish.

8th Grade Spanish Specials Project Students in every grade will complete a small project which will count as part of their grades. 8th graders will create a Spanish zoo. We will be doing a unit on animal names in Spanish. Students will use these notes to label 20 animals that they draw into a zoo diagram. Animal names must be spelled correctly in Spanish. The project must be colored and is worth 20 points. The best of the zoos will be selected for submission in the Spring Specials Showcase. Projects from all of the specials subjects will be on display in the auditoria and lobby. 3 students from each grade level will receive prizes in each special subject area.
Mexico’s Flag/ Spain’s FlagThere are 20 Spanish Speaking-countries in the world. Spain was the first Spanish-speaking country. Mexico is the largest and most populated Spanish-speaking country as well as being our closest Spanish-speaking neighbor.
