Third Declension i-Stem Nouns • A group of third declension nouns called i-stems have –ium instead of –um in the genitive plural. • The neuter i-stems also have –i instead of –e in the ablative singular, and –ia instead of –a in their nominative/accusative plurals. • Let’s take a look….

How to identify an i-stem noun • There is a long list of rules that will teach you how to i.d. which 3rd declension nouns are i-stems. • If you’d like to read it, see p. 321 in the red book…otherwise, just look for the nouns marked with an asterisk (*) in your book’s vocabulary lists! • * Nouns are i-stems. Thank you, book!!! • Also, the parts are listed nom. sg., gen. sg., gen. pl., like hostis, hostis, hostium (f.)
