  2. John Cabot was born in Italy in 1450. His sponsoring nation was Spain. John Cabot was a merchant .

  3. John Cabot was a skilled navigator who wanted to explore the world. He thought sailing west was the best way to get to Asia. He went to find a faster and safer route to the east indies after the king gave him permission.

  4. On June 24 he reached the eastern coast of Canada. He claimed the land for the king of England. After he claimed land he went back to England.

  5. John Cabot never new he had reached a continent unknown to Europeans

  6. His voyage opened the way for English settlers to north America

  7. When John Cabot was finished with his voyage he left America when he was in Canada.
