Food and supplies • Food they took on board; biscuits,beer, salt beef, salt fish, butter and cheese. • To keep their fish and beef fresh they put them in a box and put salt on each layer. • By Conrad
Ships • The ship was called Matthew because his youngest crew member was called Matthew. • The following year, in May 1497 he tried again. With a crew of eighteen sailors, he sailed from Bristol in a small ship called the Matthew. The Matthew sunk and John Cabot never returned. Why go on a voyage? • John Cabot went on his voyage to pay for his food, drink and his house, also his children’s tutor. John Cabot wanted to be famous all over the world since he was a child. He took his Grandfather’s compass to find the route to China and the tobacco plant.
Jobs for the Crew • When the water splashed on the ship they have to mop the deck. • They steer the ship • They get the food on the plates for the officers. • The sails were changed when the wind direction changed.
Discoveries • John Cabot went on a famous voyage where he found the tobacco plant. • He found a route to China then he tried to find a route to Asia but sadly he failed and never returned?
His wife and children • John was married to a beautiful woman named Mattea. • They had 3 sons Sebastian, Ludovicia and the youngest son Sancia. Before he was married to Matte he had a daughter. John and 2 of his sons died on board the Matthew. His wife and his youngest child both died of T.B.
