  6. No território que hoje é o Brasil, existiram vulcões desde eras muito antigas. Há hoje vulcões extintos. • Na era Mesozóica,houve grande derrame de lava na Bacia do Paraná, que deu origem à terra roxa. Também houve vulcanismo em Araxá, Poços de Caldas, Amazônia. • Na Cenozóica, a atividade vulcânica deu origem às ilhas vulcânicas, como Fernando de Noronha e Penedos São Pedro e São Paulo.
