KIC-Europe - Organization KIC-Europe: Background and Purpose -A growing need to expand cooperation with European countries in economic and technologic areas due to Korea’s international cooperation diversification strategy and FTA agreement with EU. -Build an integrated local Korean centre to discuss KOR-EUR policies to realize the creative economy and to utilize as a centre for R&D and innovation -A base camp for S&T and ICT bilateral cooperation with each European country including EU members KIC-Europe: History - Initial proposal at the 4th KOR-EU S&T Joint Committee Meeting (June 2013, Brussels) - Basic framework for the establishment and administration of the KIC-Europe (August 2013) - Mutual agreement at the KOR-EU Summit, opening ceremony during President Park’s state visit to Brussels (November 8, 2013, Brussels)

KIC-Europe - Major Tasks for 2014 • Overall Objectives • As an international foothold for the creation of future industries, • consolidate cooperation between Korea and Europe on Creative Economy • Projects for 2014 • □ Support for Korea-Europe cooperation in R&D activities • □ Support for VCs/small businesses of Korea and Europe • - Establishing the network for cooperation with tech commercialization institutes • in Europe including Belgium (i.e. tech transfer, IPRs, incubators, etc.) • - Supporting innovative VCs, government-funded institutes and universities of Korea, • with R&D competencies, for their tech commercialization in Europe • - Establishing support mechanisms in partnership with Korean institutes • related to tech commercialization/startup support • (globalIT support center, Future Global Startup Support Center) • □ Information analysis and a stronger network • - Collecting and analyzing tech/industrial information from the EU and Europe, • and establishing solid networks by area • - Publishing information analysis report, and holding KIC Korea-Europe future forums
