  3. IMb™ Requirements January 2013 Basic or Full Service IMb™ required for Automation Discounts. Beginning in January 2014, the USPS® will require mailers receiving automation discounts to be ‘Full Service’ compliant. Full Service Intelligent Mail® will be REQUIREDfor: • Postcards (First-Class Mail® only) • Letters, and flats when mailed using: • First-Class Mail® • Standard Mail® • Periodicals® • Flats mailed at Bound Printed Matter® prices.

  5. What is a CRID? CRID is “Customer Registration ID” • It is a unique number assigned by the USPS® to identify a company at a business location address • Associates every Permit Number and Mailer ID (MID) to a single CRID. • Used to identify who is submitting eDoc information

  6. What is a MID? • The Mailer ID (MID) is a six or nine digit number assigned by the USPS® based upon mail volume. The MID is used in the Intelligent Mail barcodes. • The six or nine digit MID will determine how many characters are available for the serial number in each of the IM barcodes. • You may have multiple MID’s assigned to a single CRID. • May be used to identify who is submitting the eDoc

Suite of barcodes: IMb™ on the Mailpiece Barcode ID Service Type (STID) Mailer ID (6 or 9 digits) Sample shown is nine digits Serial number(6 or 9 digits) Sample shown is six digits Routing Code 5,9 or 11 digits Barcode ID - Determined by presort Service Type ID (STID) - Tells USPS what service is being requested and what type of mail is being processed. Mailer ID (MID)- Assigned by the USPS and identifies the individual mailer. Is either six or nine digits Serial Number - Unique (license plate) for the individual mail piece. Is six or nine digits, depending upon the number of digits in the Mailer ID.

  33. Whose payment is in the mail? Review summary level information to view see how many responses have been received for each “batch” of statements. Monitor remittance of an individual mail piece by receiving notification of the first scan.

Attach “amount due” or other info to the record and use the data to project cash flow.   37. Managing Returned Mail • Returned Mail equates to lost revenue • Use IMb tracing to identify pieces that were returned • If mail cannot be delivered as addressed, the routing code portion of the IMb will show that mail was “redirected” to the sender.

  38. Who does this returned mail belong to? Example: A First Class letter, destined for Kodiak, AK, was undeliverable as addressed. Note that the USPS kept the first 20 characters of the IMb intact as the routing code was changed to that of the sender.

  39. Was the mail delivered as addressed? • Address Change Service (ACS) provides mailers with electronic updates with updated addresses and reasons that mail could not be delivered as addressed.
