Introducing IL concept at the University of Montenegro • Several possibilities for introduction of IL course: • One of the University services, via University Library • Through professional services offered to the students and early stage researchers via University Center for Research and Development • Via the LLL system as the part of the actual offer in the form of free modules or in the form of structured moduls with the allocation of ECTS.
Introducing and organizing IL concept at the University of Montenegro • IL course in libraries: • It will be organised once per semester and provided by librarians • It will be optional • It will be dedicated to students of postgraduate studies onwards • The librarians will have to go through the training envisaged, and Centre of Information System shall provide other necessary support • The librarians should have at least higher education degree, including librarian licence exam passed
Introducing and organizing IL concept at the University of Montenegro • IL module as part of professional training: • Set of different modules, offered to support research and development • Target groups: young academics (PhD students, assistants, junior professors, post-docs of not more then three years work experience), who will be trainees of a structured professional development training program consisting of at least 9 modules • The desired outcome is that new academics attain the skills they need to effectively contribute to their university and society through education, research and innovation
Professional development training program-modules: • Teaching & Learning • Designing Higher Education Curricula, • Research • Preparing Funding Applications & Project Management, • Research Methods: An introduction to Research Skills (incl. literature review), • Scientific Writing and Presenting Research Results, • Transferable Skills • Entrepreneurial Skills, • Networking & Teamwork, • Personal Effectiveness, • Presentation & Communication Skills, • Information Literacy.
Introducing and organizing IL concept at the University of Montenegro • IL as part of lifelong learning offer: • IL will be created as one of the modules in the LLL offer, through the LLL center at the University • Creation of on-line IL course with wide access to general public • The University Library will have the dominant role in the implementation of the module if it is organized as the free module (no need for accreditation), if it would be offered as a structured module (accreditation needed according to the national legislation), then the University academic staff will also be involved • Necessary users’ qualification will be discussed once the course is completed
Accreditation and recognition • The other possibility for recognition and accreditation of IL course is provided through the overall system for the prevention of plagiarism which will involve implementation of software as well as few levels of control. In that sense the lL would be of utmost importance • The future objective is to make the IL course certificate obligatory for the postgraduate level of studies
Approving IL programs at the highest level • As part of prevention of plagiarism, University highest bodies will be in charge of formally regulating the introduction of IL course certificate as the necessary supplement at postgraduate studies • After the documents that regulate introducing LLL are adopted by the University and state bodies, the IL course will be embedded into offer of different modules • The IL project team at the University (consisted of Vice-rector, Director of Centre for Information System and Director of University Library) is strongly committed to implementation of project activities and formal approvement of IL course at the University’s highest level of decision making
Dissemination • IL project is presented to academic community through different activities • (presentation at the biggest IT conference in the country, circular e-mails and web site news) • Presentation to wider community- International Book Fair (May 2012) • IL project presented to librarians, as part of education for use of digital archive of University (November 15th, November 30th ) • Once the material for course is finished, the meeting with vice-deans is planned to discuss the possibilities of introducing the IL elements on the level of bachelor studies
