JAXA RESEARCH PROJECT STATUS Hiroshi Sasaki (JAXA/EORC) Joint AMSR Science Team Meeting July 14-16, 2008 Telluride, CO
PRESENTATION CONTENTS My presentation is JAXA research project status about AMSR/AMSR-E. Imaoka-san is going to present the GCOM status the day after tomorrow. AMSR/AMSR-E research project • Calibration & Validation • The status of a prototype system for processing various microwave observation data • Recent topic - IARC-JAXA Information System (IJIS)
1. Calibration & Validation • Geometric correction accuracy of Level1B was improved, and the most suitable parameter was decided. Mr. Susumu Saito will present these contents. • The algorithms of a sea surface temperature and a soil moisture were improved. These standard products were updated and released in March of this year. • In this Japanese fiscal year (JFY), we plan to reevaluate the calibration status, to improve the calibration method and to evaluate an influence on standard products. According to evaluation result in this JFY, we plan to improve standard products in the next JFY.
2. The status of a prototype system for processing various microwave observation data • We developed a prototype system for processing various microwave observation near-real-time data. We began to operate this system experimentally in April. • Now this system makes a sea surface temperature, an ice concentration and a soil moisture from TMI, Windsat and SSM/I. SST (TMI) SST algorithm for TMI TMI (1B11) SM (TMI) SM algorithm for TMI SST (WindSAT) SST algorithm for WindSat WindSat (SDR) SM (WindSAT) SM algorithm for WindSat IC algorithm for WindSat IC (WindSAT) SSM/I F13,F14,F15,F16 (SDR) IC (SSM/I) IC algorithm for SSM/I
These are browse images of the day average and the week average of the SSTto be calculated from TMI and WindSat. • Because the swath width is narrow and WindSat observes an area of a high latitude, we think that we can improve the observation area by using the both data.
2. THE STATUS OF A PROTOTYPE SYSTEM FOR PROCESSING VARIOUS MICROWAVE OBSERVATION DATA • These are browse images of the day average and the week average of the SM to be calculated from TMI. • We plan to add the following ; • To show the products in a Web site • To add to the data of GCOM-W1/AMSR2 and so on • To add to the other products
3. RECENT TOPIC - IARC-JAXA INFORMATION SYSTEM (IJIS) • We show the result of the Arctic sea ice monitor with AMSR-E in the Web sites as the Arctic research. • http://www.ijis.iarc.uaf.edu/en/index.htm
3. RECENT ACTIVITY - IARC-JAXA INFORMATION SYSTEM (IJIS) • The Arctic sea ice is updated every day. • We can watch the sea ice of the specified date, and the movie of the specified period. • http://www.ijis.iarc.uaf.edu/cgi-bin/seaice-monitor.cgi?lang=e
3. RECENT ACTIVITY - IARC-JAXA INFORMATION SYSTEM (IJIS) • The graph of sea ice extent is also shown and updated every day. • The arctic sea ice was recorded the smallest extent around the end of last summer. • http://www.ijis.iarc.uaf.edu/en/home/seaice_extent.htm
