12 October, 1492 Dearest Family, I set off on a journey starting on August 3rd. Christopher Columbus isn’t treating me well. There are three ships. The Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. I am on the Pinta and the captain is Martin Pinzon. Yesterday, I was wishing for land. I hoped it would come soon. Today, we found an island. Christopher Columbus named it San Salvador. It has a lot of trees and is mostly green. The people we met on this island were the Tainos. They are almost naked. They traded us a lot of stuff like parrots and for this we gave them glass beads and hawk’s bells. I hope to be home soon. Hope to see You soon, Wesley
