  1. 12 October, 1492 Dearest Family, I am on the Santa Maria, with Christopher Columbus. He is mean, hard to get along with, and he screams. Oh, I wish I could come home. My captain's name is Christopher Columbus. We have been sailing from August 3rd –12 October, 1492. The crew thought they saw land, but Iwasn’tso sure, it was true. We did see sticks in the water and birds flying over us. When we finally got on land, it was amazing! People came swimming up to us, and after a little while, we started trading glass beads and hawks’ bells with them. There is a large lagoon in the middle of the island. The island is large and flat, and there are no mountains. It is also green, and the weather is delightful. Christopher Columbus named the island San Salvador. The people that were on the land did not have clothes, and they did not speak Spanish, so it was very hard for us to understand what they’re are saying. I hope to be home soon. love, Morgan
