  1. 12 October, 1492 Dearest Family, My voyage on the Santa Maria started 3 August 1492 and we've only seen water, water north, water south , east and west for 2 months! A couple days later, we saw twigs, leaves and birds. Then I heard people cheering “We've found land!” Finally, I can get of this ship! Plus, I found out that Captain Columbus wasn't the nicest person. To our surprise, the land already had people some living there. Some of the people wore clothes and others didn’t .We settled down and we found out the people were calledTainosand their land was called Guanahani. But, Columbus changed the name to San Salvador. We traded hawks bells, red caps and glass beads to the Tainos.They traded us parrots, cotton and spears. My voyage has been great, but as of now I can write this note. Sincerely, Devin
