2. All matter is made up of atoms.
Elements- when all the atoms in the matter are the same.
There are 118 elements.
Ex: Carbon and Oxygen
3. Compounds Compounds- matter that is made up of 2 or more combined elements.
Compounds look different than the elements that make them up.
4. Compound Ex: Ex: H & O = H2O
C & O = CO2
C,H & O = C6H12O6
5. Substance Substance- matter that is either an element or a compound.
6. Mixture Mixture- material that is made up of 2 or more substances that can be separated physically.

8. Heterogeneous Mixtures Heterogeneous Mixture- mixture that is unevenly mixed.
You can see the stuff in the mixture.

10. Homogeneous Mixture Homogeneous Mixture- mixture that is evenly (uniformly) mixed.
Homogeneous Mixtures are also called solutions.
11. Homogeneous Mixture Ex:
13. Colloid Colloid- a heterogeneous mixture that never settles.
Ex: milk or fog
14. Suspension Suspension- heterogeneous mixture that contains a liquid where visible particles settle.
