Scope of Handbook We cannot possibly think of every circumstance or situation, and we acknowledge that not every situation fits squarely into the policy that we have created. We reserve the right to make decisions about our programs that are consist with state code, district policy, and our school philosophy.
Participation Requirements • Before Tryouts: • Handbook Agreement Form • Concussion/Head Injuries Form • Consent to Drug Test • Physical Exam • Before First Competition • Athletic Fee
Eligibility • Academics – Pulled on Thursday’s for following week. • Recurring Failures – Ineligible for season • Other reasons for eligibility concerns: • Attendance • Discipline • Residency • Fees/Fines • IESA Guidelines
Athletic Fees/Fines • $30 for each sport • $120 max for a family including high school • Additional costs will be associated with sports depending on needs of sport. • Example: Basketball shoes • Coaches will not pass out equipment/gear until all fees/fines are paid.
Attendance at Practices • We understand absences will occur. We excuse absences for family emergencies, funerals, religious instruction/holidays. • If a student misses a contest: • 1 Time – Student conference with coach • 2 Time – Ineligible to participate in next contest • 3 Time – Dismissal off team
Attendance at Contests • We understand absences will occur. We excuse absences for family emergencies, funerals, religious instruction/holidays. • If a student misses a practice: • 1 Time – Ineligible to participate in next contest • 2 Time – Dismissal off team
Attendance at School • All Day Absence • May not participate in practice or contest • Half Days • Show up by at least 5th hour • Weekend Competitions • Must be present Friday by 5th hour • Exceptions • Funerals, Religious Instruction, Family Emergencies, Dr. Appointments with doctor notes (pre-arranged)
Concussions If you or a coach believes your child has a head injury, your child needs to see a doctor immediately. They will not be able to participate until they see a doctor.
Discipline • Any school suspensions will count in the following way. • 1 Day of Suspension will include: • 1 Day of In-School Suspension • 1 Day missed from a practice • 1 Day missed from a contest
Parent Communication • Please be respectful of coaches. Coaching is a difficult position. • Appropriate concerns: • The treatment of your child, mentally and physically. • Ways to help your child improve. • Concerns about your child’s behavior • Inappropriate discussions: • Playing Time • Team Strategy • Play Calling • Other Student Athletes
Transportation • Transportation to Competitions • Must ride bus • Transportation from Competitions • Must ride with parents or guardians • Transportation after Practices • Please be prompt
