SWG Mission and Scope • Attain the highest levels of safety and regulatory performance in facilities • Advocate strong, effective implementation of ISMS • Promote best management and operating practices; • Facilitate the exchange of operating experiences and information on safety/regulatory programs • Provide access to a network of subject matter experts (SME) • Identify opportunities to save and/or avoid costs • Arrange for training and awareness workshops to enhance the competency of professionals • Facilitate assist visits when requested
FY18 Key Achievements • Six regulatory reform recommendations were presented to the EFCOG board and DOE in March with potential complex wide savings of $300M-600M per year • Worked with DOE to address contractor concerns associated with the 10CFR 851 TA. DOE provided guidance to be in full compliance • Moderated a senior contractor safety culture panel at the annual DOE SCIP Meeting in May • CAS Effectiveness LOIs were developed and posted
FY18 Key Achievements • EFCOG continues to implement recommendations made in the 2017 MASL Team report. This allowed DOE to close the EM QA focus area related to this activity. This effort will require ongoing support from EFCOG to be effective • Review and rank NNSA and DOE-AU NSR&D projects • Established a Reactor Safety Focus Group • Continued Updating of SME Lists
FY18 Key Achievements • Assisted with issuance of DOE Chemical Management Handbook (DOE-HDBK-1139), Vol. 3/3 • Assisted with gaining approval to revise the DOE Electrical Safety Handbook • Completed Radiation Protection (RP) Partnership Survey identifying educational, mentoring & individual Site initiatives to address the loss of senior, experienced staff and to ready younger staff for success • Conducted extensive RP technical and programmatic benchmarking initiatives with results posted online
FY 2018 Upcoming Focus Areas and Planned Achievements • Complete OccMed benchmarking for Medical Services (emergency response services, urgent/acute care, wellness program and PT) • Issue recommendation for appropriate use of direct reading IH monitoring equipment • Compile recommendations for updating DOE Electrical Safety Handbook • Complete heat stress hazard control benchmarking (use of monitoring devices and physiological monitoring practices)
FY 2018 Upcoming Focus Areas and Planned Achievements • Hazards and Accident Analysis Handbook • DOE-STD-1027, Nuclear Facility Hazard Categorization and Accident Analysis Techniques • Cancellation of DOE O 5480.30, Reactor Safety Design Criteria with suggested replacement design criteria for new reactors • Support DOE-STD-3014 • DOE G 424.1-1C, Implementation Guide for Use in Addressing USQ Requirements • Development of Nuclear Safety Fundamental Papers that provide a primer to new Nuclear Safety Personnel

FY 2019 Upcoming Focus Areas and Planned Achievements • Continued support and input to development, revision and implementation of DOE standards (e.g., DOE-STD-5506, DOE-STD-3014, DOE-HDBK-3010, DOE-STD-3007, DOE-STD-1169, HazCat 3 DSA Development Standard, ANSI/ANS-8 Series Standards) • Support approval process for revision of DOE G 424.1-1C, Implementation Guide for Use in Addressing USQ Requirements • Support NTC Nuclear Safety Series Course Development including attending pilot courses • Nuclear Safety Fundamental Papers that provide a primer to new Nuclear Safety Personnel
