    36. This is roughly in the order of the incidence, with the incidence of hyponatremia reported as up to 13% in asymptomatic marathon cohorts (Almond 2005), 44% in the Iditasport 100 mile race (Stuempfle 2002) and 18 – 29% in Ironman triathlon cohorts (Speedy, Hiller). In the marathon medical tents, the incidence of symptomatic hyponatremia has been reported to be between 2% (Hew-Butler;Comrades 2007) – 9% (Hew; Houston 2003). What I think is important here is that EAH is largely a preventable condition whereas MI and heatstroke has strong genetic components that are not as “preventable” from the standpoint of a habitual change in behavior This is roughly in the order of the incidence, with the incidence of hyponatremia reported as up to 13% in asymptomatic marathon cohorts (Almond 2005), 44% in the Iditasport 100 mile race (Stuempfle 2002) and 18 – 29% in Ironman triathlon cohorts (Speedy, Hiller).
