Presentation Outline (annotated ~ Jen’s suggested thoughts on how to organize/what to cover • Why Worksite Wellness? • Start with your pie chart slide to set the stage. Then provide some context about why Meck Co. Health Dept started its worksite wellness program and what you are helping workplaces to do. • Thinking outside the box: • Emphasize that your initiative really focuses on helping workplaces to create cultures and environments that enable healthy choices among employees, instead of sabotaging their best efforts to be healthy. • Policies for healthier workplaces • Healthy Eating: Go through several examples of Healthy Eating Policy change. You currently have some great examples on there. • Physical Activity: Same as above. • Built environments that enable healthy lifestyles • Healthy Eating: Go through several examples of Healthy Eating Environmental change. You currently have some great examples on there. • Physical Activity: Same as above. Also, Very important to include encouraging employers to add showers and bike racks in the workplace. • Making the effort complete: • Preparation, Programs and Promotion • Preparation: talking about forming a workplace team (from your 10 steps), and the importance of assessment. You can talk about what you do when you complete an on-site assessment with an eye towards policy and environmental change. • Programs: Here it would be good to talk about the importance of offering routine opportunities for PA or HE. I think the healthy snack basket would be a great example of a program to show, since it is a routine HE example. • Promotion – keep your slide that talks about kicking off the program and branding it (one of the 10 steps). • Resources (give your website and the HWTF’s Fit Together workplace wellness website).

Preparing for success • Talk about getting a workplace taskforce / group in place to lead the process and having support from company leadership. • Could also mention how Mecklenburg is trying to form a coalition of business leaders at the county level to focus on healthier workplaces – hopefully will be helpful in promoting more comprehensive change (e.g., better network of greenways for alternative commuting, etc). • Also talk about your assessment process for this program, what you look for when you do an assessment. How they can think about assessing for policy and environmental change.
