Qu’est-ce qu’un Tsunami ? • Un tsunami, improprement appelé raz de marée, est constitué par le déplacement rapide d’une importante masse d’eau (d’une hauteur variable), mise en mouvement par le déclanchement d’un séisme.Le tsunami se propage à partir du lieu de la secousse, traversant l’océan à une vitesse qui peut atteindre 800 km/h. • Au large, les tsunamis font rarement plus de 1 m de haut, mais, en approchant des côtes, leurs amplitudes augmentent : le mur d’eau peut s’élever jusqu’à 20 m de haut !!
