  2. CBE Community Engagement Plan • Gather information through community and stakeholder forums for the purpose of planning AISI projects • Form an AISI Community Engagement group to participate in the implementation and supporting of AISI projects throughout Cycle 5

What is the purpose of today’s discussion? • Review our timelines and what can be accomplished • Begin the process of creating an AISI Action for our school development plan • Review a community engagement process that will provide an opportunity for staff and community input • Understand the how the work of AISI is supported and integrated with our work in schools

What is an AISI Action? • One specific element selected from the school development plan (theory of action, instructional goal, achievement goal) that is focussed on the system direction of personalized learning and has potential for innovation • This element is developed into an AISI Action that represents the AISI aspect of school ongoing work

  5. What is meant by ‘innovation’? • An innovation can be understood as an idea, a practice or artefact that has the potential for transforming teacher practice and improving student learning

  6. What informs the creation of the AISI Action? • Analysing data to reveal where we are now (our strengths and our needs) in order to determine where we want to go next

  7. What informs the creation of the AISI Action? • Engaging in discussion with • teachers and school staff • Engaging in discussion • with the school community

How do we create an AISI Action? • Sample school Theory of action: • If teachers develop capacity in formative assessment of writing requiring high levels of student agency then learning tasks will engage students in developing complex thinking skills. • Sample school instructional goal: • Staff will work with more intentional focus on formative assessment strategies in writing • Sample school achievement goal: • Learner engagement and performance in critical thinking, problem solving and decision making will improve

Sample AISI Action • Sample AISI Action template: • PLC’s will develop innovative ways of using (name of strategy – aspect of instructional goal)to engage learners in (aspect of achievement goal) • Sample school AISI action: • PLC’s will develop innovative ways of using peer and self assessment in writingto engage learners in critical thinking, problem solving and decision making.

Sample AISI Action (2) • Sample school Theory of action: • If teachers develop capacity in working with CBE’s online learner profile application (IRIS) then teachers will gather descriptive formative assessment information in order to plan instruction. • Sample school instructional goal: • Teachers will use data gathered from student profiles to plan instructional design in support of school achievement goal. • Sample school AISI action: • PLC’s will develop (innovative) ways of using student learning profiles for instructional design that will increase student performance and engagement incritical thinking, problem solving and decision making.
