Example process You receive confirmation from CIPD that you have been successful in your membership assessment You join CIPD membership using Student Reg Online Bank We provide induction, including the three level s of membership and overview of the path to membership You chose level of membership, & register for Associate, MCIPD or FCIPD with CIPD (qual level dependant) You achieve professional membership on completion of qualification You and colleagues submit evidence online (Impact Report and Workplace Questionnaire)

Associate The Associate Member applies their specialist skills and knowledge in the context of the organisation’s structure, culture and direction, by: • providing support for Human Resources (HR) leaders and managers as they work to deliver a range of HR processes in one or more professional areas. • delivering some HR functions, such as administrative, information and processing activities.

  9. Associate activity criteria Assessed by Impact Report • Career background including: reflections on how CPD has added value • How you maintain and produce management information • How you support HR colleagues and line managers • How you support improvement in processes and policies

Chartered Member • The Chartered Member combines their professional skill, knowledge, behaviour and insights with theirunderstanding of the organisation’s context, structure and culture, strategies, activities and needs, to create and deliver HR policies and plans that help the organisation achieve its objectives…

Chartered member continued They have the expertise needed to plan and manage generalist or specialist HR operations in any organisation or context, and they demonstrate it whether they are: • running most or all of the HR function in a small organisation • leading or supporting a team in a larger concern • delivering consultancy services • working as a generalist HR professional • specialising in one or more areas of HR, such as Learning and Development • handling HR for organisations in a UK or international context

Chartered Member Activity criteria Assessed by Impact Report • Career background including: reflections on how CPD has added value • How you maintain awareness of the external and internal environment • How you review HR policies and practices, and make the case for change • How you implement and evaluate HR improvement/innovation • How you advise, influence and coach colleagues and managers

Chartered Fellow • The Chartered Fellow uses their leadership and professional skills, knowledge, experience and insight in the unique context of the organisation, to determine, develop and implement the HR strategies, plans and policies to promote and achieve organisational success… • They make a significant impact by integrating HR policies, strategies and practices with the organisation’s core activity, and have the expertise needed to lead one or more aspects of HR in any of the following contexts:

Chartered Fellow continued • operating at the strategic and policy-making level as a member of, or as a senior specialist adviser to, the leadership team. • leading the work of other HR professionals and line managers, to achieve the organisation’s HR objectives and standards • leading the organisation’s HR as an integrated function, or specialise in one or more professional areas of HR, such as Learning and Development • providing external consultancy services to organisations, as a generalist or specialist HR professional • working in or with small, medium or large organisations, in the private or public sector • operating in the domestic UK HR arena, and/or internationally.

What you need to know: • You have one free upgrade application during your studies or up to one year after qualifying • There will be a candidate guidance pack on the CIPD website that you should read for further help and hints and tips • Start thinking about the evidence you will use in your application. Try to accumulate as many examples of activities and behaviours in the workplace that show you meet the criteria • You don’t have to complete your assessment in one sitting, you may save your work and return at a later point to complete

  21. What you need to know: • You will need to be in membership to commence the assessment process • If your membership assessment is successful but you have not yet completed your studies, the CIPD records will be updated and once we have been notified of the successful completion of your qualification, your membership upgrade will then be processed automatically

  22. Timelines…what next? • New criteria launched 1 July • Guidance on website for potential candidates to prepare • Online assessment tool available from end of July
