  2. Ancient Mesopotamia • People build different kinds of communities on different kinds of land • Women wore dresses or wrapped long pieces of cloth around themselves • This meant that members of the same family ruled Egypt for a long time • Ziggurats were built about 5,000 years ago

  3. Ancient Rome • During this time Romans began to conquer or take over other lands • The first Roman emperors worked to make the city of Rome strong • Today we call the ancient kings of Egypt pharaohs

  4. Ancient Egypt • Much of Northeastern Africa is deserts • From small farming villages the civilization now known as ancient Egypt grew • By about 3500 b.c two large kingdoms had formed in Egypt • Pharaohs are often shown in Egyptian art
