First Capitol was a cross curricular, multiple grade level project that was implemented 2002. The project focused on the role that Thomas Worthington played in the creation of one of Ohio symbols, the Great Seal and other symbols of Ohio. First Capitol

First Capitol Students used InfOhio Electronic Resources to locate basic information and/or pictures of some of Ohio’s symbols including the state flag and state bird. SIRS Discoverer Deluxe was the primary InfOhio resource we used.
First Capitol The third graders presented their research findings in the form of brief speeches shared with two elementary classes via distance learning and visually in the form of a quilt.

Ohio Animals This project involved high school DH students who researched animals that live in Ohio. They used their findings to create slide shows for 3rd and 4th grade students. Ohio Animals EBSCO Host and SIRS Discoverer Deluxe provided the students with all the background information that they needed on the animal they chose to research. EBSCO Host was particularly helpful in locating pictures of the animals that could be used in the slide shows.

Hunting for Everyday History Hands-on Ohio history lessons and activities for students in grades 3-5. Collaborative project of WGTE Public Broadcasting and Think/Greater Dayton Public Television
Hunting for Everyday History Hunt 1: Taking Flight. Students map out a time line of bicycle history. They learn about the connections between play and invention as they study the history of bicycles and the story of the Wright brothers. To begin our hunt, students used the InfOhio Resources to locate historical background on the bicycle

Hunting for Everyday History After students found all the information they needed, they used the software program Timeliner to put the data into graphic form.

Heartland Heroes Heartland Heroes is a collaborative project between the 8th grade English teacher, the 8th grade Reading and the media specialist. Each student was randomly assigned the name of a famous Ohio hero from a preselected list. Each student had locate basic biographical information about the person as well as determining why the person would be considered a hero. Heartland Heroes American National Biography, SIRS Discoverer Deluxe and Encyclopedia Britannica Online provided the students with much of background information that they needed on the Ohio hero they had to research. All of these resources linked students to additional web sites from locations like the American Memory project.
