FEBRUARY 2013 DIMENSION OF EXTRAORDINARY WORD Pastor Ambrose Nyangao
The story of Simon is typical. He had toiled the whole night trying to catch fish, but to no avail. The next day, he and his friends are sitting beside the lake washing their nets. I can just imagine what was going through in their minds. May be they were thoughts of defeat and frustration. They may have been thoughts of despair wondering whether the next night would yield anything.
Their thoughts were interrupted by the Lord Jesus Christ, who asked to use one of the boats. The crowd had followed him to hear the gospel of the kingdom. When the Lord finished teaching, He commanded Simon to launch into the deep for a catch.
Simon wondered what person this was? Had He no clue that they had toiled the whole night to catch fish and it was all in vain. Simon though says something that connects us to the theme of this month: “Nevertheless at YOUR WORD I will let down the net [Lk 5:5].”
Simon hinged his obedience to the word of God. This word is what brought the astonishing results that followed. This month we acknowledge that we want to go deeper and engage with this EXTRAORDINARY WORD. This is the word that will bring about the kingdom supply that we need. Read this story in Lk 5:1-11.
John 1:1 says in the beginning was the WORD and the word was with God and the word was God • Gen 1:3-4 God spoke and said ‘Let there be light.’ And light became. God’s creative power is in the word that He speaks • Heb 1:1-4 reveals to us that God has assigned Himself to speak through His Son Jesus Christ who is heir of all things
Heb 1:3 God sustains the universe by the WORD of His power • Mk 4:14 The sower sows the WORD • Mat 8:8 the Centurion told the Lord Jesus, ‘Just speak a WORD and my servant will be healed.’ • Mat 13:23 The WORD planted in good soil produces fruit, thirty fold, sixty fold and a hundred fold. The good soil is one who hears the word and understands it and so brings forth fruit
We decree and declare that the word of God is the divine power that brought the world into being—Heb 11:3 • We decree and declare that man shall not live by bread alone but by EVERY WORD that proceeds from the mouth of God—Mat 4:4 • We decree and declare that faith comes by hearing the spoken word of God—Rom 10:17
We decree and declare that the word of God spoken through our mouth avails extraordinary power that brings about changes—Job 22:28 • We decree and declare that we shall meditate on the word of God day and night. This will cause us to prosper in all that we do—Psa 1:2-3
Take time to study the word of God • Take time to think through and to pray the word of God • Be in a Bible study group if you are not • Ask questions when you are not sure of what God means • Seek to apply the word of God to your situation • Don’t give up. God will come through for you. Just believe His word
Heavenly Father, we thank you for your Word. Without it we would have no idea what you have purposed and planned for us. Teach us to find great things in your word. We shall claim our portion as we read your word. Your word is indeed a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. We take this extraordinary word into our lives this day in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
