  1. Major organ systems

  2. Major Plant Organs • Leaves • Stems • Roots • Buds • Flowers

  3. Edible Roots

  4. Edible Stems

  5. Edible Leaves

  6. Edible Seeds

  7. Root System • Consists of roots • Two types of root systems : • Fibrous roots • Tap roots

  8. Major Organ Systems in Humans

  9. Skeletal System

  10. Types of Joints • Immovable e.g. those between the skull bones • Moveable Joints Hinge Joints Ball and Socket

  11. Hinge Joints

  12. More Hinge Joints

  13. Ball and Socket Joints

  14. More Ball and socket joints

  15. Interesting Fact • The joint in the lower jaw may seem to be a hinge joint • However it is not a hinge joint and is called the TemperomandibularJoint • This joint is in constant use during chewing, swallowing, talking, and laughing. Some of these movements involve rotation of the joint and some are sliding movements.

  16. Muscle System • Skeletal Muscles • Automatically controlled by the brain: • Cardiac Muscles in the heart • Smooth Muscles in organ such as the alimentary canal

  17. Antagonistic Muscles • Antagonistic muscles work in pair. • The pair of muscles work in an opposite manner to each other

  18. Antagonitic Muscles in the Arm

  19. Some antagonistic muscle pairs

  20. Circulatory system • Contains the heart, arteries, veins and capillaries • Provides oxygenated blood to all parts of the body and carries away the waste from the body in the form of deoxygenated blood

  21. The Heart

  22. Path taken by blood

  23. The digestive system • Organ present are oesophagus, stomach and intestines • Other organs include liver and pancreas • Functions: breakdown and absorption of food ith the help of enzymes

  24. The respiratory system • Organs: lungs, breathing tubes ( trachea, bronchi, bronchioles) • Allows gas exchange

  25. Smoking damages lungs

  26. Position of lungs, diaphragm and ribcage while exhaling and Inhaling

  27. Excretory system • Organs: kidneys and bladder • Remove waste such as urea in the form of urine • The liver, skin, lungs and large intestine also play a role in getting rid of waste from the body

  28. Other systems Endocrine system sensory system • Organ :Glands • Produces Hormones • E.g. Adrenal gland produce adrenaline • Functioning as an endocrine gland, the pancreas secretes the hormones insulin and glucagon to control blood sugar levels throughout the day.  • Eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin • Provides information about the surroundings to the brain
