English 10- 9/3/13 • What do you think “mental coward” could mean? • “Doctor, I feel like a pair of curtains!” - “Pull yourself together!” • Palindrome - word or passage that reads the same forward as backward Goals –Explore the meaning of “mental coward” and the necessity of courage in school. Discuss AIW. Finsish Motto and Prospective imigrants. Analyze article and pursue a text-based discussion. Homework –Write a well thought out answer to the following for discussion tomorrow: Complete poetry analysis. Write your conclusions using text based evidence.

English 10- 9/4/13 • Do you believe that intelligence is fixed and unchangeable or that a person can become more intelligent over time? • How many University of Washington freshmen does it take to screw in a light bulb? • MAD – Mutual Assured Destruction. A concept in nuclear planning. Goals – Take notes and analyze an article. Discuss viewpoints using text-based arguments. Homework – Write a well thought out answer to the following for discussion tomorrow: Is intelligence fixed at birth or can people become more intelligent? Use text-based arguments in your answer.

  3. English 10- 9/5/13 • Five minutes to review for the vocabulary Week 1 Quiz. • How many twins does it take to change a light bulb? • BOLTOP – Better On Lips Than On Paper. Add it to SWAK if you mean business! Goals – Successfully complete Week 1 vocab. quiz. Fun with metaphors, similes and analogies. Homework – Write a well thought out short passage including effective metaphors, similes or analogies. You will receive extra credit for sharing in class on Monday.
