Component 1: Media products, Industries & Audiences • Section A • Analysingmedia language*: advertising, marketing, music video and newspapers • EXAM QUESTION: 1 – assess media language = shot types, camera movement, miseenscene* and sound (video or print) • EXAM QUESTION: 2 – comparison question assessing representation (video or print) • 2 hours 15 mins (35%) • Section B • Understanding media industries and audiences • Advertising, marketing, film, newspapers, radio, video games • EXAM QUESTIONS: stepped questions on media industries and audiences
Component 2: Media forms and products in depth • Section A • Television in the Global Age • Section B • Magazines, mainstream and alternative media • Section C • Media in the online age
Component 3: Individual Cross Media Production • Work individually to create 2 media forms • Original music video for an existing song • No longer than 3 mins and 30 secs • Create website for release of single or album by fictional artist • Can get help from class members with production of video
How will Component 3 be assessed? Advertising and Marketing: Music Create a music video or a website* to promote a new artist/band. Research & Planning • Analysis should focus on: • how specific techniques such as: layout and composition; editing; sound, etc. are used to create meaning, • the way in which representations of events, issues, individuals and social groups (as appropriate) are constructed,. • Research into the media organisation, production processes, distribution and marketing, scheduling/positioning, regulatory issues etc. impacts on a production. Identify examples from similar products analysed. • Research into targeting of audiences, including analysis of the techniques used to appeal to, engage and position an intended audience. Identify examples from similar products analysed. Research into audience responses to, and interaction with, media products. • Secondary research - academic theoretical research. Primary audience research such as the use of focus groups during the preproduction process
Component 3 continued • The total number of marks available is 60: • 10 marks for the statement of aims and intentions • 20 marks for creating a media product that meets the requirements of the set brief, including suitability for the chosen form, genre, industry context and target audience. • 30 marks for creating a media product that uses media language to communicate meaning and construct representations. You will need to pitch your idea to a panel of expert judges!
