  1. General ASM Meeting 10/14/2010

National Chemistry Week Week of :OCTOBER 17-23Sunday October 17: Decorating Party!The Physical Science Building second floor will be decorated with Posters (Students Research) and National Chemistry Week propaganda. It will be a fun event to prepare UTEP students for what the week entails.Monday October 18: Periodic Bake Sale, Chemistry Circus, Speakers: Dr. Echegoyen and Dr. AlexanderPeriodic Bake Sale: 10am-12 am on the corner of University and Hawthorne.  ACS will be baking cupcakes in honor of all the elements on the periodic table to help fund raise. Please stop by our booth and engage in some fabulous dessert.Chemistry Circus:  12:30-4:30 pm Physical Science room 208.   A series of chemical demonstrations and speakers will be addressing UTEP students and opportunities they can engage in. Continued on next slide 

  3. National Chemistry Week • Tuesday October 19: White Lab Coat Day and Outdoor Movie NightLab Coat: In order to bring awareness to other UTEP students about the growing research taking place on campus everybody is encouraged to wear their lab coat all day.Outdoor Movie Night:  3-9 pm Geology Lawn. A cook out will be held from 3-5 and then we will be showing the movie "Lorenzo's Oil".Wednesday October 20: ACS ReceptionReception: 3:30 pm infront of physical science building room 208. Chips and drinks will be served.Thursday October 21: Student vs. Faculty Game Day5:00 pm  Location is still pending.  Soccer Game!!!!Friday October 22: Reception and CookoutReception: starts at 3:30. before seminar, chips and drinks will be served.Cook Out: starts at 5:00. After seminar cookout.  A time to eat and network with professors.

  4. Orange and Blue Day • WHAT: This event is much like an open house for prospective students. Seniors from every high school have been invited to attend. This is a great opportunity to get our organization noticed and to recruit new members for the upcoming years • WHERE: Union Breezeway • WHEN: Saturday, October 16, 2010 •    We need to arrive by 9:45 am in order to set up our table and have it ready by 10:00 am    • Officers participating are : Katie Bryant, Denisse Meza, Elizabeth Aguilera, and Luis Gonzalez •  We would like to have many members participate in this event – a sign in sheet will be available for members hours

  5. Fundraisers • October Fundraiser • Bake sale and Pancake sale at the UGLC on Thursday October 28th from 8:00am to 1:30pm • We need volunteers for this event • Pancakes are to be sold for $3 for 3 pancakes a plate (price may change depending on price of materials) • We are accepting donations of baked goods, i.e. brownies, cupcakes, cakes, cookies, etc. (They can be home made or store bought)

Fundraisers • Selling goodies and scantrons at the ASM office • December Fundraiser • Gift Baskets • Contain chocolates, marsh-mellows, and other goods wrapped in a basket for sale • Selling goodies and scantrons at the ASM office • If you know a company/business that can donate goods or funds please let us know. • If you have any other fundraising ideas please email Jazmin at jgonzalez28@miners.utep.edu

  7. ASM Membership Dues • Just a reminder that if you have not done so, please be sure to pay your dues to Katie, our Treasurer, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE • This is very important!!

  8. Seniors Graduating in December • If you have not already emailed Liz stating that you will be graduating in December: • Please contact either Liz or Jazmin after this meeting and no later than October 25th. • This is adamant because we will be ordering graduation sashes soon, if you have not: • A) contacted Liz or Jazmin and, • B) have not paid your dues to ASM You will NOT be receiving a sash to wear at graduation in December

  12. Next General Meeting • There are only 3 General Meetings Left this Semester! • The next will be on 10/25/10 at 4:30 pm • Then on 11/8/2010 at 4:30pm • And the last one on 11/22/2010 at 4:30pm We are expecting both Dr. Kirken and Dr. Aguilera to be presenting at one of the next meetings

  13. End of the Year PARTY!!! • Friday December 3rd at 6pm at Dr. Maldonado’s House • This event will be Pot Luck, so bring some tasty food and “drinks” ! • Come join ASM in celebration of the semesters end
