What is Form? • Form describes the volume and mass, or the 3D aspects of objects that take up space in designs. • Forms should be viewed from many different angles.
Types of Form • Open Forms: forms that can be looked into • Closed-Forms: forms that are self-contained • Free-Forms: any form with non-geometric shape or irregularnatural form • Geometric Forms: sphere, cube, pyramid, cone, cylinder.
What is Shape? • Shapes are created when lines cross or intersect with other lines to an enclose a space • Shape is 2D, which means it has heights and width but no depth.
Types of Shapes • Geometric Shapes: Circles, Squares, rectangles and triangles. • Organic Shapes: informal & irregular shapes (ex. Leaf, seashells, flowers) • Positive Shapes: solid forms in a design (ex. bowl of fruit) • Negative Shapes: space around the positive shape or the shape around the bowl of fruit.
Class Assignment • Today, you MUST FULLY COMPLETE your Large Scale Color Wheel Design Project, If you haven’t done so yesterday for GRADE! • Once you’re done, Create the 4 Basic Forms we discussed in this lesson: Cylinder, Sphere, Cube, Cone
