  10. The other day, my friends and I talked about the rules that we have in school. At our school, we have to wear uniforms every day. The problem is that all my classmates think the uniforms are ugly.We think young people should look smart and so we would like to wear our own clothes. Our teachers believe that if we did that, we would concentrate more on our clothes than our studies. We disagree. We would feel more comfortable and that is good for studying. If we can’t do that, we should be allowed to design our own uniforms. That would be a good way to keep both teachers and students happy. Reading passage

  11. It’s also probably a good idea for parents to allow teenagers to study in groups during the evening. I know we get noisy sometimes, but we learn a lot from each other. We also think that vacations should be longer. At present they’re too short. Longer vacations would give us time to do things like volunteering. Last summer I had an opportunity to volunteer at the local hospital, but I couldn’t because I had to go back to school. It would be a good experience for me because I want to be a doctor when I’m older.

  20. writing practiceand homework Suppose you are Alice. You reply to the letter by Mike about one school rule on which your classmates have different opinions, including (1) What is the rule? (2) What is your opinion? (3)Why are you for it or against it? 假定你是Alice,给你的笔友(Mike)写一封信。包括以下三个问题:(1) Which is the rule? (2) What is your opinion? (3)Why are you for it or against it? 语句要通顺、连贯,字数约80字。

  21. Sample writing Dear Mike, I’m glad to receive your letter and know about your school rules. In our school, we are not allowed to bring a mobile phone to school. My classmates have different opinions on this rule. Some students think it is convenient to get in touch with their parents by using it. Other students think it can distract students from their study.

  22. In my opinion, students should not bring it to school. Mobile phone use will affect our study during school hours. Some students are even lost in playing games in the mobile phone. What’s more, they may give much trouble to teachers. For example, some students might use phone messages to cheat during exams. So some schools have stopped students from carrying mobile phones to school. In a word, as students, we should not use a mobile phone at school. Yours Alice
