  2. Definition (Wikipedia): Ein Learning Management System (LMS) (auch Lernplattform) ist ein Software-System, in dem selbst erstellte (durch Autorenwerkzeuge) oder zugekaufte Inhalte in einer Datenbank verwaltet und den Lernenden zur Verfügung gestellt werden.

  3. Definition (2): Verschiedene Arten der Kommunikation: • synchron (z. B.: Chat, Whiteboard) • asynchron (z. B.: E-Mail, Diskussionsforum, File Sharing) Hierbei wird der individuelle Lernprozess vom System mitverfolgt und aufgezeichnet/protokolliert (z. B.: Aufruf der Kurseinheiten, Testergebnisse).

  4. Standards: Um Lerninhalte verschiedener Anbieter in ein LMS integrieren zu können sowie eigene Lerninhalte auch in andere LMS einbinden zu können, wird zunehmend auf die Einhaltung von Standards wie SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model), AICC (Aviation Industry CBT Committee), LOM (Learning Object Metadata) gesetzt.
